John Washington III Calls for Guaranteed, Independent Funding for the Courts and All Three Branches

John Washington III Calls for Guaranteed, Independent Funding for the Courts and All Three Branches (Pensacola Watch News)

John Washington III is making the courts' budget a question of constitutional independence. When Congress controls the courts' funding, the justice system can suffer, John Washington III wrote. In 2025, he noted, the federal courts had to scale back paid operations because of a funding lapse. "That's not balance," he wrote. "That's dependence."

John Washington III argued that if one branch can squeeze another financially, checks and balances start to crack. He asked readers to picture themselves in court without a $10,000 lawyer, not knowing all the rules while prosecutors do, and he said judges must be free to protect constitutional rights, not worry about politics or budgets.

His proposal, as he framed it, is guaranteed, independent funding for all three branches, with full public accountability but no political retaliation. "This isn't unlimited money," John Washington III wrote. "It's about protecting the people's rights and restoring real independence among the branches."
