Tuesday Night on I-10: The Inside Lane of the Ramp Down to Highway 29 Southbound Closes From 8 to 6
Election Day's last traffic note is a narrow one: one lane of one ramp, closed overnight for drilled shaft work on the $236 million interchange rebuild - with the outside lane staying open.

The PM drive home from the polls comes with one specific pinch, and it starts an hour after voting ends. The inside lane of the Interstate 10 off-ramp to Highway 29 southbound will be closed overnight Tuesday night for drilled shaft operations, according to the Florida Department of Transportation, as reported by NorthEscambia. The closure runs from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting, and the ramp's outside lane will remain open throughout.
The work belongs to the largest road project in the county. The $236 million I-10 at Highway 29 interchange improvement project is designed to increase capacity, enhance safety and improve mobility through one of the most heavily traveled corridors in Escambia County, FDOT says - and it is a long build, with construction scheduled for completion in 2030. Drilled shaft operations are foundation work: the deep concrete footings the rebuilt interchange's structures will stand on.
For Tuesday night's drivers, the practical read is simple. The ramp stays usable - one lane, not none - but the merge down to southbound Highway 29 will run narrower and slower while the shafts are drilled, and the closure window covers the late Election Day returns traffic as well as the early Wednesday commute's first hour. Drivers who can take Davis Highway or I-110 south instead will miss it entirely.
