Deputies Clear West Florida High School After Bomb and Active Shooter Threats Prove Not Credible
Escambia County sheriff's deputies cleared West Florida High School on Thursday after a morning lockdown and a room-by-room search found no evidence of an explosive. The sheriff's office said both the bomb threat and a reported active shooter threat were not credible, and it is investigating where the threats came from.

West Florida High School went into lockdown on Thursday, October 29, after a caller reported that a bomb could be on campus, an Escambia County Sheriff's Office spokesperson told the Pensacola News Journal. Deputies arrived at the school and spent the morning searching rooms. In a release, the sheriff's office said there had also been a reported active shooter threat.
Deputies did not find evidence of an explosive. In its release, the sheriff's office said both threats had been cleared as not credible and that students would be able to return to school. Escambia County Public Schools also gave a statement to the News Journal.
The case is not closed. The sheriff's office said it is actively investigating where the threats originated, and officials emphasized that threats of this kind are taken seriously even when they prove not credible — the same posture the district took after a similar hoax threat disrupted another Escambia campus earlier this fall.
