Pensacola Weekend Traffic: Garden Street Stays at Two Lanes, Final Night of Nine Mile Road Work Saturday

The Florida Department of Transportation's Escambia and Santa Rosa advisory puts one long-running squeeze and one final night of interchange paving in front of Halloween-weekend drivers — and the weeknight I-10 and I-110 resurfacing closures have wrapped up.

Pensacola Weekend Traffic: Garden Street Stays at Two Lanes, Final Night of Nine Mile Road Work Saturday (Pensacola Watch News)

Garden Street remains downtown Pensacola's standing squeeze. Business U.S. 98 between Pace Boulevard and North Donelson Street is reduced to two travel lanes — one in each direction — while crews work on the north side of the street, and the Florida Department of Transportation says that temporary configuration stays in place through late 2026. Drivers heading to Saturday's downtown Halloween events will share those two lanes with heavier foot traffic around Palafox Street.

Saturday night brings the final scheduled night of paving at the Interstate 10 and Nine Mile Road interchange, Exit 5. FDOT's advisory lists intermittent lane closures and additional median closures between Bayshore Road and Tiger Lake Drive from 7 p.m. Saturday to 5:30 a.m. Sunday, the last window in a run that began October 25. All of the week's activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled, the department notes.

The wider resurfacing closures are done for the weekend. The intermittent nighttime lane closures, traffic shifts and periodic ramp closures on I-10 from east of U.S. 29 to east of Davis Highway, and on I-110 from I-10 to U.S. 98, ran Sunday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and are not scheduled for Friday or Saturday nights under the current advisory.

Looking further ahead, FDOT plans a $19.8 million resurfacing of I-10 from the Perdido River Bridge at the state line to west of Highway 29, NorthEscambia reported. The project, expected to begin early next year and finish in late 2027, includes high-tension cable barriers and may bring traffic shifts and Sunday-through-Thursday nighttime lane closures once construction is underway.
