Pensacola's Veterans Day Is Wednesday, November 11: A Parade, Then an 11 A.M. Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park (Pensacola Watch News)

In a Navy town, Veterans Day is not an abstraction, and Pensacola's observance keeps its traditional shape this year. The city's annual Veterans Day Parade - listed in the City of Pensacola's own handbook among the parades held in the city every year on November 11 - rolls on Wednesday, November 11, and the day's formal ceremony follows at Veterans Memorial Park, according to the Veterans Memorial Park Foundation of Pensacola, which stewards the park on Bayfront Parkway.

The Foundation puts the ceremony at 11:00 a.m., beginning at the conclusion of the parade, on site at the park. It usually includes a presentation of the Colors, the singing of the National Anthem along with other patriotic musical performances from local musical groups, presentations and guest speakers, and it is open to all members of the public. The ceremony is one of the park's two major annual events, alongside its Memorial Day Celebration.

For Pensacola's considerable community of veterans, active-duty families and retirees - the population Naval Air Station Pensacola anchors - the Foundation publishes its event schedules and updates on its site and social channels as the day approaches, and residents planning to attend are advised to check there for any final schedule changes. What will not change is the arithmetic of the day itself: November 11, the anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War, set aside to thank all who have served.
